Biotin-PEG-Mal (Biotin-PEG-Maleimide) is a bifunctional PEG reagent with a biotin group at one end and a maleimide group at the other. The biotin group serves as an affinity label for proteins such as avidin and streptavidin, enabling targeted binding with high specificity and affinity. The maleimide group reacts with thiol groups on cysteine residues or other thiol-containing molecules through Michael addition, forming stable thioether bonds. This reagent is commonly used in bioconjugation, protein labeling, and the development of targeted drug delivery systems due to its versatile functional groups and enhanced solubility provided by the PEG spacer.
