DBCO-PEG-NHS is a PEG derivative with a dibenzocyclooctyne (DBCO) functional group and an N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) ester moiety. The NHS ester group enables the selective coupling of the DBCO-PEG molecule to primary amines on biomolecules, such as proteins and peptides. The DBCO functional group further facilitates bioconjugation via copper-free click chemistry, specifically with molecules containing azide groups. This reaction, known as strain-promoted azide-alkyne cycloaddition (SPAAC), enables rapid, biocompatible, and specific conjugation under physiological conditions without the need for toxic catalysts.
