mPEG-DBCO is a PEG derivative featuring a dibenzocyclooctyne (DBCO) group, which is highly reactive towards azide groups (N3) through Copper-free Click Chemistry. This reaction is highly selective and efficient, allowing mPEG-DBCO to conjugate with azide-functionalized molecules, including peptides, proteins, enzymes, live cells, and whole organisms. One of the key advantages of DBCO is its specificity; it reacts with azides rapidly and does not interact with amine or hydroxyl groups at physiological temperature and pH. Additionally, DBCO-azide reactions proceed much faster than reactions involving free thiol groups, making mPEG-DBCO a valuable tool in bioconjugation and biomolecule modification for various biomedical applications.
