Interferon α-2a (IFN-α2a) is a Type I interferon produced mainly by leukocytes in response to viral infection. As a key mediator of innate immunity, IFN-α2a triggers antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory pathways through the IFNAR receptor complex. It enhances antigen presentation, activates NK and T cells, and supports broad antiviral defense. IFN-α2a shares high sequence identity with IFN-α2b and IFN-α2c and contains conserved cysteine residues essential for biological activity.
