mPEG-pALD, or mPEG-propionaldehyde, is a linear monofunctional PEG derivative with a methoxy (CH3-O-) group and a propionaldehyde (pALD) functional group. 

It is a widely used PEGylation reagent that specifically reacts with N-terminal amines of proteins and peptides under mild conditions (pH 5–8) in the presence of a reducing agent. This selective conjugation allows for site-specific PEGylation, improving the pharmacological properties of therapeutic proteins.

One of the most notable applications is in the production of pegylated granulocyte colony stimulating factor (PEG-GCSF).  PEGylation enhances the protein's stability, extends its plasma half-life, reduces immunogenicity, and decreases the frequency of dosing in clinical use.
